WHO'S WHO IN HUB CITY

NAME:  Catalyst
ALIAS:   Larissa DeCorre
AGE:   18
SEX:   Female
EYES:   Blue-Violet HAIR:   Lavender HEIGHT:   5' 5" WEIGHT:   108#
OCCUPATION:   College Student, General Hellraiser
POWERS:   Genius-Level Intellect, Molecular Transmutation/Reconfiguration

Catalyst is more than just a prodigy; she's a genius on the par of any PhD graduate of MIT in several scientific fields, including Biochemistry/ Chemistry, Molecular Biology and Physics, to name three.  How she acquired the powers to reconfigure and transmute organic and inorganic matter is currently unknown, but they are most certainly imbued powers-- Catalyst does not rely on magic or external 'devices' to cast her powers.  Although often times she seems to have a glow about her, it is not believed that is an manifestation of her powers, but rather a stylish side effect that she creates by converting the air around her, causing harmless flares of trace amounts of magnesium and neon gas.  According to Larissa, she can convert a substance by envisioning its (bio-)molecular structure and converting and rebonding molecules in the manner she desires.

She can alter a body's molecular configuration, size, shape and the like, even adding mass or 'accessorizing,' as she calls it, by converting the air molecules surrounding her target along with him or her.  A person changed in this way remains in their transformed state unless Catalyst either reverts them (by rewriting the molecular codes with her powers) or-- for some reason-- if Catalyst's own consciousness is forcibly removed, by KOing, for instance.  It is believed that Catalyst's powers somehow locks the target's original molecular code into their new forms and keeps them from reverting by means of the low-level radiation she constantly emits.  This radiation must somehow be maintained on a subconscious level, because on the occasions that Catalyst has been knocked unconscious, the radiation inexplicably dissipates and her targets have unexpectedly reverted to their normal states.

BACKGROUND/PERSONALITY:

To make base elements with her considerable powers would be simplicity itself.  Catalyst could transform lead into gold (or heroines into silver or whatever else) without even really thinking about it.  But if Catalyst has any two particular mental flaws, it's these:  One, simple is never good enough for her.  Given any choice in the matter, Catalyst prefers to transmute a target into an object that retains some semblance of their form but has some intrinsic mundane value, such as BC being turned into a candle-- complete with wick and candlestand crafted from the air molecules around her-- rather than a simple wax statue.  Simple objects of art hold little allure to her, unless they have an ulterior use or are of a particularly difficult substance to create.  Catalyst loves a challenge.

Unfortunately, this can be used to a heroine's advantage; since Catalyst's mind is human, it can sometimes take time to mentally 'craft' an appropriate molecular bond.  And she has been known to be pushed to irrationality by 'critics' of her chosen transformations.  Besides that, she might be thwarted by particularly difficult substances to mentally envision-- a heroine like Shifter, who can alter their own molecular structure, could prove a very useful ally against her.

Larissa's second mental 'flaw' is her rather sadistic nature.  It does not always surface, but she has a near-sexual affinity for displaying the control and the power she has over a victim.  It would not be above her to torture a victim by transmuting them and allowing their consciousness to remain intact until they are fully transmuted.  She has not yet had occasion to do so, but would likely enjoy psychologically breaking people, forcing them to do things against their will and capturing the moment.  She has not yet completely learned the subtleties of using fear and psychology to her advantage, but she's a quick study.

When not in her usual guise, Larissa is at heart a spoiled little debutante type-- albeit a genius one-- with a latent sadistic and jealous streak that usually boils over with little effort.  She's made it abundantly clear that what she wants, she gets, and does not suffer fools gladly.  Larissa lives in relative comfort by herself in Hub City's outskirts, but what her parents did, or what became them is unclear.  Although she does go to school at Hub City College's south campus, she does so only because it suits her, and because it offers her extended time in the various labs.  She would likely make an interesting psychological study if there were any psychologist suicidal enough to want to spend extended time with her.

Catalyst might be the most dangerous villain Hub City has seen.  Certainly the heroines there will find that out soon enough.

NOTES:   Catalyst created by ArgoForg and JMD.  She has not yet appeared in the Medusa Chronicles.
