POWERS:
Enhanced Strength and Speed, Combat
Skills, Acrobatics. As an Amazon, Wander Woman is the ultimate warrior. She is adapt at almost all forms of hand-to-hand combat, as well as the use of just about every type of weapon, with the possible exception of firearms. In addition, her Amazonian nature grants her enhanced physical strength and endurance. While hardly invulnerable, she can endure intense conditions, such as extremes in temperatures, that would bring a normal human to their knees. Suffice it to say that in sheer, physical, hand to hand combat, there are very few individuals that can go toe-to-toe with her, powered or unpowered. Training on the Amazonian isle not only greatly increased Deanna's combat ability and physical prowess, it also refined her natural acrobatic and tumbling ability, as well. Deanna is capable of taking falls from great heights while sustaining little to no damage, and moves far more quickly, deftly and acrobatically than it would seem a person of her musculature and size could. Armored Bracers
Wander Woman's lone token of her
birthplace is a pair of specially forged bracers, reputedly designed by
a god himself. The bracers are made of a nigh-unbreakable metal
with special properties that can cause bullets to bounce off them,
energy beams to be redirected, and skulls to be caved in with no damage
to her wrists whatsoever. |

BACKGROUND: Anyone familiar with the straight-laced no-nonsense personality that Wander Woman sports today would hardly recognize her if they'd met her just a few short years ago. (That is, short as measured in Amazon years, which with their long life spans, equals to about two decades.) To say that Deanna wasn't your typical Amazon was an understatement. While her sisters trained daily to increase their combat skills, the young Deanna could hardly be bothered, preferring to spend her days either playing through the forest of their island home, or setting in front of the magical tapestry in the palace, taking in all the various wonders that the modern "outside world" had to offer. It was an attitude that brought her nothing but scorn from her Amazon sisters. (Of course, the fact that, even with her devil-may-care ways, she was the most skilled among them didn't help either.) One Amazon, however, didn't mind Deanna's ways, and that was Princess Dawn. As the daughter of the Queen, Dawn was usually treated in a very distant fashion by her sisters. By all of them, that is, except Deanna. Never one to stand on ceremony, Deanna treated Dawn just like any other Amazon, a fact that the young Princess found refreshing. A fast friendship quickly grew between the two, a fact that didn't sit well with the other Amazons at all. But all knew better than risk the Queen's wrath, so tolerated the situation. ...until the night that IT escaped. No one remembers how the Amazons had become the guardians of the ancient being that remained locked away in the mystic crystal in their great hall. In fact, no one even remembered the being's actual name. All that could be recalled was that IT -- as they had taken to calling the being -- was a purely evil entity with a perchance for violence against women. As such, it seemed only natural that a race of female warriors should be IT's jailors, and for the better part of time, the Amazons had filled that role. Each Amazon took a tour as actual guards, keeping watch that no one came close to the mystic crystal, thus ensuring that IT would remain its prisoner. As their most sacred duty, even Deanna and Princess Dawn had to take their turns as guards. As fate would have it, their were on duty on that terrible night, and as such were the only witnesses to the events leading to IT's escape. Whatever happened, however, Deanna has refused to say. All that is known for sure is that somehow the mystic crystal was smashed, and IT made IT's escape, but not before taking his revenge on the Amazons by cruelly taking their Princess from them. The other Amazons wasted no time pointing the finger of blame at the silent Deanna, taking her refusal to say what had transpired as proof of her guilt in what had happened to Dawn. Through it all, Deanna remained silent, offering no defense against her sisters' accusations. Several of the older Amazons, however, noticed something new in the abused young Amazon's demeanor. For the first time, they saw a fire in Deanna... a determination... a purpose. The next day, Deanna disappeared from the island. No one saw her go, so no one witnessed her stop at the site where Princess Dawn's body was displayed in moaning. Likewise, no one heard her vow. "Wherever IT goes, no matter where in the world, I shall follow. I shall not rest until the world is once more free of IT's evil. To you, precious Dawn, this I swear." And for the next two decades, that's what she did. She followed every lead... every clue... even every rumor. In every country in the world, Deanna wandered, her sole purpose in life to put an end to IT's reign of evil. But always, IT remained just one step ahead of her. Finally, her journey brought her to Hub City, where it seemed that IT had decided to remain. She didn't know what about the metropolis seemed to keep the being there, but as long as IT remained in Hub, so would she. It was obvious to her, however, that an extended stay would require her to establish a more everyday existance. So, taking the surname of DiMucci -- adopting it from an Italian family that she had stayed with briefly during her wanderings -- she took advantage of her extensive knowledge of the world to start a career as a writer of travel books. Meanwhile, she followed the example of the many heroines that inhabited Hub City, taking on the identity of Wander Woman. She quickly established herself among the hero community of the City. Though all her various encounters with the villains that plagued on the citizens, however, she never forgot her vow. IT was in Hub City somewhere. And as long as IT remained, Wander Woman would be there to hunt IT. |
